Things I'm interested include:
French History: Notably the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. I've read too many Napoleon biographies to count. If you have any interesting books/articles on that time period, email me!
Technology: Logistics, Nuclear Power industry, Digital Advertising, and anything useful with AI. Emphasis on useful.
Traveling and Photography: Favorite country is Scotland. I've been to 35+ countries and counting. Traveling with others (either friends or strangers) is far more interesting than by yourself. If you'd like to solo travel but want some companionship, I'd recommend to check out GAdventures and MuchBetterAdventures. I recently bought a Fuji Film XM-5 and slowly going from 'AUTO' to 'MANUAL' - pure struggle so far :) Despite all our unique attempts to exude salt-of-the-earth wordliness, can we all agree Western Europe is still the best?
Hiking: I've hiked the GR20 (Corsica), Patagonia (Chile), Salkantay (Peru), Pemi Loop (USA), Devil's Path (USA), among others. Send me your recs!
Books: You can keep track of my reading list here. My favorite novel is The Leopard by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa and my favorite non-fiction book is Napoleon: A Life by Andrew Roberts. My favorite genres are: Historical Fiction, Business and Political Biographies, Finance/Economics, and History (mostly French Revolution, Gilded Era, WW1/2)
Video Games: RPGs, First-Person Multiplayer, and Puzzle Games (Try the Talos Principle!). Currently, I'm playing Overwatch and Doom.
Podcasts: Listen most frequently to Dwarkesh, Prof G, Conversations With Tyler, Econtalk, Acquired, All In, BBC: In Our Time, Open To Debate
Lectures: Highly recommend looking at speaker forums at 92Y, NY Historical Society, and SoHo Forum, if you're in the NYC area
Blogs: I have a rotation of Slatestarcodex (now astralcodexten) and Freddie deBoer. Both are on substack. Send me recs if you know of similar 'rationalist' blogs you think I'd like!
Running: I've run a handful of marathons and looking to do an ultra soon depending on the ever sliding scale of ambition. I live near the East River where finding unimpeded running paths is like locating a small rubber duck in the Pacific Ocean.
